Currently Reading (on My Amazon Kindle):
Wool
Hear it's a must ready for 2012.  So far so good.
Dear Life
A collection of good short stories that are stung together by common elements.  Lots of acclaim for this book, but I find it a little hard to follow.
A History of the World in 6 Glasses
Interesting book concept

Other Books I Like:
Behind the Beautiful Forevers
Having completed a recent trip to Mumbai, India and whitnessing the poverty there, this book came as close to real life as it gets.
Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour Bookstore
This is an excellent and intelligent mystery of modern day meets old school books.  Very easy to read and I couldn't put it down.
10 Billion Days and 100 Billion Nights
A novel about history and the future, mixed with different religious themes.  It's a massive book, but easy to read and understand.  Makes you think about religion in a new way.
Cutting for Stone
A poignant portrayal of twin boys growing up in Africa.  Sons of an absent father, who is a doctor, they follow in his footsteps and make their family proud.
China in Ten Words
Nothing better at understanding China, it's traditions, people, and relationship with the rest of the world than this book.
Life of Pi
Read it before the movie deal.  Excellent portrayal of a journey that transcends a lifetime.
11/22/63
The thriller from Steven King.  Not usually a big King fan, but this book was refreshing, witty, entertaining, and intelligent all at the same time.
Unbroken:  A World war II Story of Survival
I was intimated by the size of this book.  Although it took me a while to read, I couldn't stop.  I wanted to learn more about this true story.  Excellent work by the author.  I'm looking forward to more from her.
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet
Another WWII story, but this time state-side.  The story of Japanese internment camps, a relationship that's lasted through decades, and a wonderful read.
Let The Great World Spin
Events centered around a day in NY where a tight rope walker is walking between the tall buildings.  Life of different people, all intertwined.  Critically acclaimed book and the writing was excellent.
Bonjour Laziness:  Why Hard Work Doesn't Pay
... all the rage in France, it's a tone for the modern worker showcasing examples of what is wrong with corporate society (at least in France) and why it pays to be lazy (if you're in a socialist economy).
A Short History of Nearly Everything
...a fantastic walk through time, science and history all with a fast-paced narrative to keep the reader truly interested.  After reading this book, I wanted to learn more ... about everything.  Forget High School Musical, this book should be required reading for anyone in high school.
Religious Literacy
...what's the difference between sects believing in Christianity, Catholicism, and other world religions?  This book will tell you, and even may surprise you.  It also examines some of today's "religious truths"  that people cling to and how over time these religious facts have been misconstrued by the populous.
The World is Flat

... how outsourcing is forcing a new global economy to emerge.  Is the US ready?
FAB: From Personal Computers to Personal Fabrication
... from MIT, examples of how manufacturing is getting personal, allowing people to setup their own mini-fabrication labs at home or in their communities, and the network of design technology that supports it.  Could this counter-balance outsourced manufacturing, allowing for design and manufacturing freedom on a global scale?  I can't wait to get a 3D printer for the garage.
The Persian Boy
...a telling account of Alexander the Great.  My favorite book of all time.
The Spartans
...one of the greatest societies in History, a chronicle of the Spartan way of life and the Athenian war.
The New Financial Order
...How new concepts on risk will lead to an ever-increasing array of insurance opportunities.

Philanthropy:
Room To Read.   Here's a great organization I support.  They build community libraries and schools in developing countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.) and stock them with books.  The provide under-privileged children with the opportunity of education.
